ACCA Time Limit?

Do you know how much time you are left to complete your ACCA?

What is 7-Year-Rule?

The time limit for the ACCA exams applies only to the Strategic Professional papers. You have seven years to pass the Strategic Professional exams once you pass your first Strategic Professional exam.

If you don’t pass all the Strategic Professional exams within that seven years time period, any Strategic Professional paper that you have passed beyond that 7-year period will be forfeited. Therefore, you will have to retake them in order to become an ACCA affiliate.

Case 1

John passed his AA (Audit & Assurance) and SBL (Strategic Business Leader) exams in June 2015. The SBL paper will be given an expiry date of June 2022. If John did not complete all the Strategic Professional exams by June 2022, then the SBL paper will have to be retaken.

Case 2

Ruth passed her SBL (Strategic Business Leader) exam in June 2015 and Advanced Taxation in Dec 2018. The SBL paper will be given an expiry date of June 2022. If Ruth did not complete all the Strategic Professional exams by June 2022, then the SBL paper will have to be retaken. However, the ATX paper will have an expiry date of Dec 2025, so will remain valid.

Extending my Time Limit?

Can the expiry date of the ACCA papers that you have passed be extended?

Yes, you could apply for an extension but it is not guaranteed that it will be granted. ACCA will rigorously consider each application, and very often is granted under the most extenuating of circumstances such as critical illness or bereavement after long-term care.

ACCA & OBU Partnership ceased

Oxford Brookes Business School (OBBS) has undertaken a strategic review of the higher education landscape and its programmes. OBBS will not offer the BSc Applied Accounting after May 2026. Until then everything will carry on as usual with submission windows in May and November each year. If you intend to submit in 2023, 2024 or 2025 there is no change. Successful students will continue to be offered the opportunity to attend a graduation ceremony.

Thinking to embark on your OBU Thesis?

Once of the condition to be eligible for the OBU BSc Degree option is to demonstrate currency of knowledge. This can be demonstrated either:

passing your RAP within 10 years of the earliest of: the date of your first ACCA examination pass, or the date of your first ACCA exemption being granted. (or)
(2) passing 3 ACCA (Applied Skills or Strategic Professional) examinations in the 5 year period before submitting and passing your RAP. (or)
(3) being a full member of ACCA of good standing, over 1 year of ACCA Membership (CPD and fees must be up to date).

Time Limit for University of London MSc Option

Pass expiry dates will also apply for students studying the MSc in Professional Accountancy from University of London. All modules of this course must be completed before or at the same session as an ACCA pass expiry date, otherwise they will be required to re-take the pass or passes which have expired.
